WEEK 1: Day one questions
TOPIC 1: ABOUT YOU -- Who's who this term:
Hi! My name is Avonly Wolf. I graduated High School in 2023. This is my first year here at LB. I went to a small community college in South Beach, Oregon called Oregon coast Community College. It's less than half the size of LB, very very small. I came to LB to play on the Women's Basketball Team. We had a strong start and a decent finish. I'm currently unsure of what I want to study or any career goals I have. I know I need to get my prerequisites and than figure it out.
I'm most interested in learning about social media and such.
One thing I'm passionate about is Fortnite. I'm so utterly addicted to Fortnite at the moment that I can see the shotgun square in the middle of my vision.
TOPIC 2: THE INFORMATION YOU CONSUME
- What do you consider your THREE main sources of information? This can be a platform (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) and/or media sources (e.g. New York Times, Fox News, Huffington Post). Why are these your "go-to" sources of information? Second, how reliable do you consider these sources, and WHY?
I believe one big source of my information comes from social media. I love TikTok and Instagram, they are the first and last things I watch before and after waking up. Another big source of information for me comes from tv shows or movies. I don't have any premium subscriptions so every time I watch TV I get handfuls of ads and other things. Lastly, I would say music is another big source of information for me. A lot of messages are sent through music and I listen to all and tons of different kinds of music. I believe all three of these are terrible sources of information. You're told every day you shouldn't believe what you see in the media. The only somewhat reliable source of these is music. For example, Kendrick and Drake. However, even then you can't decipher what's really true and what's really false.
I have learned that media is fake news. Everything can be made up. I have heard only a couple things on "deepfakes", most of these being conspiracy theories so I'm not too caught up on those. I would say personally I'm pretty concerned about the media. I love watching and wasting time, but to what cost?
I believe social media can have good impacts. However, I believe it is we as people, that determine how social media is used. For example, social media can be a great way to keep in touch with old family, old friends, realities ect. Social media can also be a great place for self-expression. Tons of big power movements have also started around or because of social media. Social media can be used positively and helpfully, with no negatives or evil. However it's us as people that's letting social media play out how it is.
